Seiken no Blacksmith – 3
“The sky she saw for the first time… was smeared in blood. Blood was the first thing she smelled. Memories of stealing lives and lives being stolen. A never-ending nightmare”
We’re shown a brief flashback of a war in which Aria (as a sword) is being used to kill people. Which happens to be the nightmare of the imprisoned old man who was causing trouble in episode 1.

Episode 3 Demon sword, -Sword-
Cecily is introduced to Aria. When Hannibal tells her that she’s the item that she’ll be protecting, Cecily is a bit surprised. Afterwards, she visits Luke again with Aria. Seeing as how Luke and Cecily are always bickering, Aria wanted to know if the two were a couple, which infuriates Cecily who lunges at Luke with a knife and demands that he deny that. Whilst the two of them are arguing, Aria makes a curious comment to Lisa. As she glances towards the mountain, she says, “This place has a high density of spirit energy. What a great environment for us, huh?” Lisa gets startled and Aria just winks as if to say “Your secret is safe with me”.
After the two of them cool down. Aria finally explains how it is, that she is both a sword and a human. It seems that as a sword she is a rapier that can summon wind. Luke notes that the sword’s abilities are not tied to a ‘prayer contract’ and is rare indeed. He also couldn’t believe that Cecily would be put in charge of protecting something that valuable. Cecily explains that no one would suspect her as a single guard to be walking around with a seemingly normal human girl to be in fact with said sword. Basically Luke just thinks Cecily is too much of a noob for this job.
Back at the knight’s headquarters, Hannibal is briefing his men to prepare for another possible attack. He warns that the enemy may again use the “devil’s contract” which would put their lives in danger. In other words more freaks might appear. He says that he survived the last war by fighting hard but fearing death. One of the knights, Reginald Drummond, has doubts about Cecily’s abilities and asks Hannibal why he trusted her with the important task of protecting the sword. He replies by saying that she is from the Cambell family and he’s sure she won’t let them down.
Meanwhile, Cecily, Aria and Lisa are out on the town enjoying some restaurant food. Well actually they’re kind of pigging out. Well anyways, the conversation turns to the upcoming market in which Cecily asks Lisa if Luke will be attending. She accidentally blurts out that Luke goes to them to search for a ’sword that can slay god’. Then she changes the subject as quickly as possible and stuffs her face with food. I thought she was going to choke haha.
Later on, the three of them walk around town for a bit. Aria mentions her past a little saying that she had woke up on a battlefield as a sword during the Valbanill war. Many men have used her to kill others and others have killed to try to get her and her abilities. Both Lisa and Cecily feel bad for Aria because that is pretty terrible existence for someone to endure. But Aria insists not to dwell on it and says she thinks the city is beautiful and changes the subject. We briefly see a scene where the bandit prisoners start to become possessed by the bugs and they break out of jail.
Eventually they ended up at the knight’s headquarters where Cecily picks up her new replacement sword, which has a false edge. Reginald Drummond also shows up to get his new sword. He tells Cecily that she should learn to actually kill someone first before talking like she knows swords. He picks up his new sword which is a giant Zweihander and tells Cecily that swords are only good for killing. He swings his sword to show off and try to intimidate them. Cecily disagrees and says that they are for protecting others. But Aria defends Cecily and explains that her previous owner who thought just like Reginald ended up dead with only despair in his heart.
Suddenly the town’s warning bells began ringing and everyone had to scramble to their posts. Infected people with bugs coming out of their mouths like the ones seen earlier were attacking the town. Very nasty. Hannibal mobilizes the defense force in response but tells Cecily to remain on standby much to her displeasure. But Aria tells Cecily that her job is to protect the city and this causes Cecily to spring into action. As she runs down the street and turns into a dark alleyway where people have gathered, she spots the mysterious black hooded man who is conspiring with the imprisoned old man (it seems Cal got busted out of jail somehow).
She tries to confront them but they escape and the crowd of people run away frightened as one of the infected people with an axe starts to advance towards Cecily. Aria explains that the bug inside has eaten them and that they are nothing more than a walking zombie now. She also says that there is no way to save him and that she should kill him to put him out of his misery as this is all they can do now. Cecily defends her self as the ‘zombie’ attacks her but just can’t bring herself to kill another person. At the last moment, Reginald appears to save her and without hesitation cuts the zombie human down. Reginald yells at her and calls her a coward, saying “You should just quit being a knight!”. Devastated, she falls to her knees and agonizes over how she couldn’t do it. However Aria tells Cecily that she is glad to have found someone as kind as her.
Lastly, we see the prisoner and the black hooded man exchanging a few words. The black hooded man says “I’ll save you, in exchange for your soul!”. He has a huge creepy grin on his face too haha.
